Your business or home is safer and better protected with the right systems installed on your roller shutters.

Industrial Shutters

A good number industrial type shutters are either managed by a hand held-chain or an externally installed block motor system. Nowadays, tubular motors are no longer used because they are only suitable for shutters that are operated by a limited number of times during the day. This type of motor is often used to operate only lighter weight shutters.

Hand chain operation

A fitted cog connects at one end of the upper barrel assembly and is aligned to a drive wheel using a chain drive system. A pull chain assembly rides over the drive wheel and is of ample length to operate by a person standing beneath shutter. A spring of the right tension and size fits into the overhead barrel assembly. That spring is tensioned to counter-balance the roller or shutter for safety and ease of operation.

Electric operation using an external block motor

An external block engine is installed outside the upper barrel assembly of the industrial door or shutter. This motor drives the barrel using gears, chains or direct drive. Set onto the motor will be the limit switches that control the maximum travel distance of the shutter curtain. The block engine or motor will also use a backup manual override option within the electrical wire feed.

Domestic Roller Shutters

With the cost of most Roller Shutter Motors getting reduced in recent years due to competition and better technologies developed regularly, a few door companies now offer motor-driven domestic shutters at almost the same price as most hand-operated systems.

Most Industrial Roller Shutter Motors are fitted with a manual override system. This allows the user to activate the shutter using a hand operated system by winding the door or roller shutter in the case of a sudden power failure.

Tape operation

A tape is fitted to a drive wheel at the end of the upper barrel assembly of the door or roller shutter with the other end of the tape installed to a self-locking cassette at a lower level. The tape mechanism is released from the cassette assembly to lower the shutter gradually. It can also be pulled manually to raise the roller or shutter. Some connections are assembled with a winding handle, but this is usually restricted to larger framed shutters or roller doors.

Hand Crank operation

A universal joint is attached to the end of the overhead barrel assembly and turned by a crank rod to lower and raise the shutter.

Spring Operation

A spring of the prescribed tension and strength is fitted into the upper barrel assembly and tensioned to counterbalance the operation of the shutter. A handle mounted at the bottom of the shutter curtain is pushed up or pulled down to raise or lower the roller shutter.

By now homeowners and business people worldwide know how convenient it is to have Industrial Roller Shutter Motors installed in their roller shutters. With a broad plethora of choices in the market, the challenge in choosing the best fit for your needs and budget will be challenging.
